'Matite da paura' Illustration Contest - The black cat - Part 3 - Last steps + WIP gallery

In the early stages of this challenge I was worried about the possibility of coming out with a copy of one of the amazing artworks already created to depict this eery novel.

The Black Cat. Illustration by Harry Clarke from “Tales of mystery and imagination” (1923)

So I've decided to focus on the 'side-character' of the story, the protagonist's wife, her bond with the second half-blind black cat, and the comfort this little relationship would possibly bring to her life as an abused woman.

Some colour tests

This tale, as well as almost all Poe's production, is a dense juice of desperation and hope, not very different from the author's daily life.

I've tried to render this unbalancing feeling in the protagonist's posture, juxtaposed to the calm room in which he's making his drunk appearance.
